NSS Water Brings NanoPure Technology to Korea, Revolutionizing Semiconductor Water Use

Korea South, 29th May 2025, Seoul, South Korea — Swedish water tech startup NSS Water is redefining ultrapure water standards in semiconductor manufacturing through its proprietary NanoPure Water solution — the world’s first of its kind. By supplying ultrapure water directly at the point of use (PoU) within semiconductor equipment, NSS aims to reduce resource consumption while improving yield and sustainability.

“Semiconductor production consumes enormous volumes of water,” said CEO Bjorn Holmstrom in a recent interview. “With NanoPure Water, we can deliver higher purity with less water and fewer chemicals — achieving better results with less waste.”

Unlike conventional centralized purification systems, NSS Water’s PoU approach allows water to be treated and applied directly at or inside each piece of equipment. This tailored method enhances purity, reduces delays, and ensures that each process receives only the water it needs, when and where it needs it.

NSS Water is currently in collaboration talks with major Korean chipmakers. as well as exploring partnerships with local water technology companies such as GNGTech. The company’s technology has been praised for its environmental efficiency and potential to significantly lower operational costs in fabs.

Why Korea?

NSS Water first entered the Korean market through the K-Startup Grand Challenge in 2022, where it ranked in the top 30 out of over 2,600 applicants. This experience revealed the potential of Korea’s semiconductor ecosystem and its receptiveness to sustainable deep tech solutions.

“In Europe, the semiconductor industry is smaller and our technology was often misunderstood,” Holmstrom noted. “But in Korea, our value proposition was immediately clear — people recognized the problem we were solving, and were ready to talk solutions.”

Korea, along with Taiwan, now forms the company’s primary expansion focus. Holmstrom cited government and startup ecosystem support as critical enablers, making Korea a viable and attractive market for foreign entrepreneurs in advanced manufacturing and sustainability.

Looking Ahead: Expanding Sustainability Without Compromising Quality

NSS Water is currently conducting validation and certification testing with leading global institutions for semiconductors, both in Europe and Taiwan. Beyond semiconductors, the company sees future applications in pharmaceuticals, life sciences, and other fields where ultra-pure water is essential.

“We want to prove that sustainability doesn’t require sacrificing quality,” said Holmstrom. “Our value is simple: higher performance, lower cost, and less resource consumption. That’s what NSS Water brings to advanced industries.”
